No. 79 Restaurant Brings Polish Fusion to Hammonton
When Wanda Switonski, Rafal Golembiewski, and Jasmine Kienzle were working on their new business, the number 79 popped up often. They soon learned that 79 is an angel number meaning to ‘pay it forward.’ That's how No. 79 Restaurant Bar & Liquor Store in Hammonton got its name.
No. 79 Restaurant seats 75 diners in a building with 70 years of history in town. That's why preserving the bones of the building and bar were important to the renovation. For instance, the penny bar is intact beneath a copper sheathing top. However, the team did make a few additions. The spot now sports cedar wood paneling on the ceiling and Jack bottle drop lighting along the bar. There are also chandeliers made from eight-foot-tall wooden wine barrels. Newspapers from 1920 to 1940 are used as wallpaper throughout the room. An outdoor bar and seating will open for summer 2023.

The eclectic menu at No. 79 Restaurant uses fresh, homemade products and recipes including their kielbasa, pierogies, and sauces. They put a creative twist on traditional items, developing a Polish Italian fusion twist on classic bar foods. Wanda grew up in Poland, and hopes that people will enjoy trying something new. "They get introduced in our restaurant to new food," she says. "To their surprise, they really like it. They get to broaden their horizons."
They don't fry chicken wings at No. 79 Restaurant, but dry rub and bake them instead. Their house-made rubs include buffalo, ginger lime, Korean BBQ, garlic parmesan, BBQ, and horseradish honey mustard. Another unique starter is the pierogi parmigiana, chicken parmesan, homemade red sauce, and mozzarella over pierogi.
Entrees include flatbreads, pierogies, chicken sandwiches, and a Polish Kielbasa sandwich. Groups can also order the No. 79 Board, a charcuterie board with Italian and Polish meats and cheeses. But Wanda raves about their burgers. "It's more of a gourmet and elevated experience," she says.
No. 79 Restaurant offers tapas-style Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas or a loaded bloody Mary. At the bar, guests will find beers on tap and seasonal brews. They have their own red and white wines, their own IPA, and will soon have their own seltzers. The menu boasts tequila, gin, and vodka, plus rum and bourbon specialty drinks, all made with homemade syrups.
Weekly events include Monday wing night, Wednesday beer and bucket specials (with $4 off any burger), and Thursday nachos night. Likewise, their weekday Happy Hour (4:00 pm – 6:00 pm) offers deals on tapas-style pierogi dishes. In addition, they have live music every Friday and Saturday evening.
